CMGA Projects - 2006

Channel 3 Kids Camp, Andover

With the support of UConn and CMGA, the Nature Education and Gardening Programs debuted at the Channel 3 Kids Camp this summer. Volunteers and educators worked with 245 children in the forest, the greenhouse, and the 1,500 square foot teaching garden. They learned about plant identification and propagation, insects, flower arranging, and container gardening. The bounty of herbs and vegetables (including corn, zucchini, and eggplant) went to test-testing campers in the field and into the Camp Kitchen. One mammoth sunflower reached 87" high thanks, in part, to a 10" growth spurt in just 4 days!

Campers voted the program 3rd most popular of seven in its inaugural year, and we hope to bring it back next summer. To learn more, go to www.channel3kidscamp.org/gardening.
